Streaming Goes Big-Screen: New ‘Narnia’ Tease and Fresh Movie Premieres on VOD

This week’s streaming news feels unusually cinematic. Netflix has unveiled the first full look at its live‑action adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia, directed by Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig. At a special IMAX presentation in New York, Gerwig introduced trailer footage that emphasizes sweeping fantasy visuals and an emotional, character‑driven tone. In a major strategic shift for Netflix, the film will get a wide theatrical release in February 2027 before arriving on the service in April, signaling that the company is increasingly willing to treat some “streaming originals” as big‑screen events first.

Alongside that long‑lead announcement, this week’s VOD lineups across Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+ and others are packed with fresh films. International entertainment sites are highlighting an apocalyptic comedy starring Chris Evans and Anya Taylor‑Joy among the week’s key releases, as well as several recent theatrical titles making their at‑home debut on subscription platforms and digital rental. Availability will vary by country, but for Japanese viewers navigating a crowded menu of thumbnails, these global streaming round‑ups offer a useful shortcut when deciding which new movie deserves your evening.
