New on Hulu This Week: A Major Anime Hit and More Fresh Films Land on the Service

US outlet Comic Basics has published a handy rundown of every movie arriving on Hulu between late September and early October, and the headline grabber is what the site dubs a “major anime hit.” While the article focuses on the US market and doesn’t spell out all the Japanese industry details, it notes that this theatrical anime—part of a well‑known franchise—has made the jump from cinemas to streaming in a relatively short window, underscoring how crucial VOD has become for global anime audiences.

The piece also catalogs a wave of new thrillers, socially minded dramas, and returning catalog favorites landing on Hulu over the same period. For each title, the writer breaks down elements like the intensity of the horror, the depth of the character work, and how critics have responded so far, then ranks how urgently you should prioritize it in a crowded watchlist.

Japanese viewers can’t easily access the US version of Hulu, but lists like this offer a snapshot of what’s driving conversation in the American streaming market. The fact that a Japanese animated film is billed as the week’s biggest draw alongside Hollywood releases is another data point showing how firmly anime has claimed a place at the center of global VOD culture.
