Zoom Turns Every Conversation Into Context With New My Notes App and AI Layer
At its Zoomtopia conference on October 20, Zoom unveiled a set of features aimed at closing the gap between meetings, chats, and actual work. The centerpiece is a new Unified Context Layer, an AI‑driven data fabric that connects conversation intelligence from meetings, phone calls, chat, and contact center interactions with internal knowledge bases and third‑party business systems like CRMs.
The idea is simple: instead of hunting through recordings and documents, teams should be able to quickly answer “who decided what, and when?” Zoom says the context layer will be accessible not only inside Zoom Workplace but also via APIs and Model Context Protocol (MCP) connectors. That means external AI platforms such as Claude or ChatGPT can tap into Zoom data—within a company’s policies—to trigger workflows, update records, or surface decisions wherever people actually work.
Zoom also announced a standalone My Notes mobile app. Separate from the main Zoom client, My Notes can record and transcribe in‑person discussions, hallway chats, and offsite meetings, then generate concise summaries. By putting ad‑hoc, offline conversations on the same footing as scheduled video calls, Zoom is pitching a future where “every conversation” feeds into a consistent context layer rather than disappearing into personal notebooks.
