DigitalOcean’s New Agent Droplets Turn AI Agents into a Simple Monthly Subscription
Cloud provider DigitalOcean has announced Agent Droplets, a new flavor of its virtual servers designed specifically for running AI agents. In DigitalOcean’s terminology, a “Droplet” is a virtual machine; Agent Droplets bundle everything an agent needs—compute, memory, storage, and inference tools—into a single, predictable monthly subscription.
The move targets startups and smaller teams that want to experiment with “agentic AI” (autonomous AI that can execute multi‑step tasks) but find cloud infrastructure choices overwhelming. Recently, DigitalOcean launched Managed Agents, a runtime that gives governed access to more than 16,000 tools plus serverless inference and persistent memory. Agent Droplets essentially wrap those capabilities into fixed server plans so customers don’t have to assemble a custom stack.
There are two tiers at launch: Pro at US$50 per month for smaller projects, and Team at US$200 per month for heavier workloads, each with built‑in discounts on the included resources. New customers also receive a small promotional credit to spin up their first agents. Compared with hyperscale clouds, DigitalOcean’s simpler interface and flat pricing could make it an attractive on‑ramp for developers and SMBs who want to get hands‑on with AI agents without hiring an infrastructure specialist.
