Firefox’s Smart Window just got smarter: new AI tricks for tabs, answers, and history

Mozilla has rolled out a substantial update to Smart Window, the AI-powered browsing mode built into Firefox. Smart Window is an experimental feature that tries to sit between a traditional browser and an AI assistant, using your open pages and history to help you stay organized instead of opening yet another tab.

The latest update focuses on three upgrades. First, “live answers” now pull in fresh information from the web and summarize it with cited sources, similar to AI answers in modern search engines but delivered directly inside Firefox. Second, tab management gets smarter: Smart Window can automatically group related tabs and close obvious duplicates, which should be a relief for users who routinely end up with dozens of nearly identical news or shopping pages.

The third change is a more visual history view, showing page thumbnails so you can recognize articles by their layout and images, not just the page title. Smart Window is still labeled experimental, but this release makes it a more serious glimpse at what an AI-native browsing experience inside Firefox could look like over the next few years.
