Googlebook arrives: Google’s first AI‑native laptop built on Android and ChromeOS

Google has opened pre‑orders for Googlebook, a new line of laptops running a custom “Googlebook OS” that blends Android technologies with a desktop environment derived from ChromeOS. Starting at $899, five models from different hardware partners are rolling out in the first wave.

Google positions Googlebook as a laptop category “designed for Gemini Intelligence,” its family of AI assistants. Native Android apps run alongside a full desktop Chrome browser and Linux tools, turning the device into a kind of high‑end Android phone and Chromebook combined. Tight phone integration lets users mirror notifications and apps from their Android handset, aiming to make switching between devices feel seamless.

Under the hood, Googlebooks ship with the latest Intel and Snapdragon X‑series processors coupled with NPUs capable of more than 45 trillion operations per second to accelerate on‑device AI and extend battery life to around 14 hours. PC makers like Dell are joining in with dedicated models such as the XPS Googlebook. With that backing, Google is clearly trying to position Googlebook as a credible “third option” in laptops alongside Windows PCs and Macs.
