Roku Labs brings experimental apps to your TV with a new Roku OS hub

US streaming device maker Roku has rolled out a new Roku OS update that introduces “Roku Labs,” a dedicated hub where users in the United States can try the company’s experimental apps and features on the big screen before they’re officially released.

From the Roku home screen, viewers can open the Labs section to browse early‑stage channels, such as new AI‑driven search experiences, interactive games, or enhanced media players. Because these apps are clearly positioned as “lab” projects, Roku doesn’t guarantee stability or long‑term availability, but early adopters get a first look at what the company is building.

Until now, Roku has mainly shipped new capabilities through periodic OS updates. With Roku Labs, it can involve users directly in that process, gathering feedback while ideas are still forming. As rival streaming platforms focus on redesigning interfaces and inserting more ads, Roku is betting that turning the TV into an experimental playground will create a tighter feedback loop between its product teams and everyday viewers.
