Google’s new Gemini Windows app puts AI one keystroke away

Google has quietly pushed its Gemini AI closer to the heart of the PC. According to several AI news briefings, the company has released an official Gemini app for Windows that behaves like a system-wide launcher: hit the “Alt + Space” shortcut and a command palette pops up on top of whatever you’re doing, ready to take a prompt.

The app is designed to feel more like an operating‑system feature than a web page. Beyond simple chat, it’s expected to accept files and screenshots you drag in, help draft emails, summarize long documents, and assist with coding tasks from anywhere on the desktop. Compared with the browser version or Chrome extensions, the native client promises faster startup and snappier responses, making it more realistic to rely on Gemini dozens of times a day.

Microsoft already bundles its own AI assistant, Copilot, into Windows, so Google’s move effectively plants a rival “brain” directly on the same desktop.
