Tuya’s Doova: An AI Home Robot Built to Watch Over Seniors Living Alone

Chinese cloud platform company Tuya Smart used IFA 2026 in Berlin to unveil “Doova,” a home companion robot aimed at seniors who live alone. Tuya is best known for providing the backend platform that powers many smart bulbs, plugs, and other IoT devices, and Doova essentially brings that ecosystem into a mobile robot body.

Doova moves around the home on a dual‑wheel drive with caster wheels and performs 360‑degree scans in each room. If it detects a potential emergency — such as a fall or unusually long inactivity — it can automatically send alerts and a safety report to family members’ smartphones. Beyond monitoring, the robot also behaves like a voice assistant, handling reminders and simple conversations, while acting as a central controller for Tuya‑compatible lights, air conditioners, and sensors so families can check in on the home remotely.

By combining cloud AI with local processing, Doova bundles monitoring, smart‑home control, and lightweight companionship into a single device. Tuya clearly has aging populations in Europe and Asia in mind, and similar concepts are likely to spread to other markets, including Japan. Pricing and international launch plans are still unclear, but the product highlights how “peace of mind for families living apart” is becoming a core design goal for consumer robotics.
