Anthropic brings Claude straight into Chrome as a built‑in AI sidekick

Anthropic, the AI startup behind the Claude family of models, has started rolling out Claude in Chrome, a browser extension that lets you talk to Claude directly inside Google Chrome. Until now, Claude was mainly accessed via the web app or desktop client; with this release, it lives in the browser toolbar and can read the page you’re on to summarize content, translate passages, or draft replies and documents in context.

From any tab, you can open the side panel, highlight text and ask Claude to condense it, explain jargon, or compare it with information from other open pages. Anthropic is also positioning the tool for developers and knowledge workers: think quick copy rewrites for landing pages, code review on snippets in docs, or generating support responses without leaving the current site. Privacy controls are included so users can manage how page content is shared back to Anthropic for model improvement.

Access is initially focused on paying Claude Pro, Max and Team customers, with the company hinting that broader availability and free‑tier integration may follow. As more vendors try to turn the browser into a full AI workspace, Claude in Chrome gives Chrome users another alternative to ChatGPT‑style tools, especially in organizations already standardizing on Anthropic’s models. Official timelines for Japanese localization haven’t been announced yet, but the English‑language extension is already live on Chrome.
