Slack turns chats into a multiplayer IDE with new coding agents

Slack is pushing deeper into developer workflows with a new feature that lets multiple AI coding agents collaborate directly inside chat channels. Branded as “Code with Anthropic, GitHub, Cognition, and Vercel agents,” the update turns Slack into a kind of multiplayer IDE: teams can discuss a task, call in different agents, and move from design to deployment without ever leaving the workspace.

According to coverage aggregated by Techmeme, teams can summon Anthropic’s Claude, GitHub’s Copilot, and other partner agents into the same thread. A developer describes the requirement in natural language, one agent proposes code, another checks tests or performance implications, and a third might handle deployment or CI/CD integration. All of this happens in context with the original conversation, so decisions and code history stay in one place.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has publicly framed the launch as “real multiplayer coding” where humans and agents share the same channel. For Slack, it’s a strategic move to make the chat app the central development hub rather than just a notification layer on top of GitHub or Jira. How quickly non‑English language support matures—and how pricing for the various partner agents is packaged—will determine how attractive this becomes for global engineering teams.
