Microsoft fuses its Copilot apps into one hub for work and personal AI

Microsoft has started rolling out a unified Copilot app that merges the consumer “Copilot” experience with the Microsoft 365 Copilot productivity tools. The new experience is arriving on mobile first, with Windows and macOS users able to opt in over the coming weeks.

In the unified Copilot app, you can access Word, Excel and PowerPoint drafting features and general-purpose AI chat in a single interface. The goal is to reduce the friction of switching between a “work” AI and a “personal” AI, and to eliminate confusion around which Copilot app or sign-in flow to use. Navigation and account handling have been redesigned so that features automatically adapt to the type of account you sign in with.

For IT departments, having one Copilot app instead of several should simplify deployment, device management and policy control. During the phased rollout, however, organizations may briefly live with both the old and new Copilot apps in parallel, so updating internal usage guides and training materials will be important.
