Spotify’s new ‘Stations+’ app reimagines background listening with AI-powered bookmarks

Spotify has quietly soft-launched an experimental app called “Stations+” in several European countries, and it’s quickly gaining traction among tech outlets and Reddit communities. The new app is effectively a modern reboot of “Spotify Stations,” the company’s radio-style spin‑off that shut down in 2021, but rebuilt around today’s generative AI and speech recognition capabilities.

The key idea is an AI-powered “bookmark” button. While you’re listening to long podcasts or talk shows in the background, you can tap once whenever something sounds important. Stations+ then automatically trims roughly 30 seconds around that moment, saves the audio as a clip, and attaches an AI-generated text summary on top. Right now the app is in public beta with limited regions and features, but international tech media are already calling it “note‑taking for podcasts, automated.” Early adopters see potential beyond entertainment, from recording lectures and language practice to skimming daily news shows more efficiently.
