AI startup funding tops $3.3B in a week, with agents and apps soaking up capital
According to figures compiled by tech newsletter GENZ TECH, AI startups raised a combined $3.33 billion in the week from September 28 to October 4, 2026. Just 16 companies accounted for that total, underscoring how capital is concentrating in a small set of high‑conviction bets. The standout round was a $1 billion Series C for Instinct, an AI company that automates tasks like property management, reportedly valuing the firm at $10 billion.
Investors favored two themes during the week: AI agents that can take over customer service and back‑office workflows, and vertical AI applications tailored to specific industries. Compared with earlier in the cycle, less of the money is going into generic infrastructure and more into products that can drive revenue quickly inside enterprises.
GENZ TECH notes that robotics and AI infrastructure deals remain solid but no longer dominate the headlines. Instead, the “agents and apps” wave appears to be setting the tone for the next phase of the market. For corporate leaders, including those in Japan, the trend raises a practical question: which parts of their operations can be safely handed off to AI agents in the near term, and how fast can they adapt their organizations to take advantage of that shift?
