Saudi HUMAIN Taps China’s MiniMax to Build Sovereign Arabic Model HUMAIN‑M3

Saudi Arabia–backed AI company HUMAIN used the LEAP 2026 conference to unveil HUMAIN‑M3, a large language model positioned as the core of a “sovereign AI” stack for the Arab world. The system is built on top of M3, an open‑weight model from Chinese startup MiniMax, and then extensively fine‑tuned on Arabic language data and region‑specific use cases.

HUMAIN says HUMAIN‑M3 is designed for government services, education, healthcare, finance, and other sectors that require high‑quality Arabic and sensitivity to local culture and law. While MiniMax’s original M3 was trained mainly on English and Chinese, the Saudi variant reportedly incorporates public records, policy documents, and religious and cultural texts to improve both performance and safety in Arabic.

The partnership illustrates a broader geopolitical shift: Gulf states are seeking to build their own AI infrastructure rather than relying solely on U.S. cloud providers, and they are increasingly turning to Chinese model builders for the underlying technology. HUMAIN has signaled that it wants HUMAIN‑M3 to become a shared platform for other Arab countries, forming a regional alternative to Western AI ecosystems.
