WordPress, the world’s most widely used blogging and website content‑management system, has revealed that it signed an open letter urging the U.S. government not to rush into heavy restrictions on “open‑weight” AI models—systems whose parameters can be downloaded, inspected and modified by anyone. The letter, titled “Open Weights and American AI Leadership,” argues that open models are essential for both innovation and safety because they allow independent researchers and small companies to probe how these systems work.
