Nvidia plans 15%+ AI system price hike by 2027 as memory becomes the real bottleneck
Multiple reports indicate that Nvidia has told major customers it plans to raise prices on its AI server systems by more than 15% starting in early 2027. The key driver isn’t the GPUs themselves but a worsening shortage of high‑bandwidth memory (HBM and similar technologies), which has become the real choke point for large‑scale generative AI deployments.
According to these reports, Nvidia has already notified hyperscale cloud providers and other large buyers that upcoming generations of its AI systems will ship at higher price points. That could push infrastructure costs even higher for companies training or serving frontier‑scale models. At the same time, memory makers in the US and Asia are investing heavily in new capacity, so some analysts expect supply – and pricing – to stabilize in the longer term.
The planned hike underscores how the center of gravity in the AI race is shifting away from pure model quality toward the economics of running those models at scale. New chip vendors promising cheaper inference, along with software that routes workloads across multiple models to optimize cost and latency, are gaining traction. For enterprises, the question is no longer just “which model is best?” but “how do we affordably deploy AI across millions of requests a day?”
