OpenAI and Nvidia have unveiled plans to build a massive AI campus at the former PORTS uranium enrichment site in Pike County, Ohio, aiming for up to 8 gigawatts of compute capacity. For comparison, 1 GW is roughly the output of a large nuclear power plant, making this one of the most ambitious AI data center projects announced so far. The companies plan to start with an 800‑megawatt buildout and then expand across additional federally owned land that was cleared after the Cold War–era facility shut down. Nvidia will not only supply all of the GPUs powering the campus, but also provide up to $105 billion in financing via its own credit lines, turning the deal into a deep strategic alliance rather than a straightforward hardware sale. For OpenAI, the project secures long‑term access to the vast computing power required to train future generations of large language models and multimodal systems.
