ChipAgents raises $60M to bring agentic AI into semiconductor design

U.S. startup ChipAgents, based in San Jose, California, has raised $60 million in a Series A2 round to build what it calls an “agentic AI platform” for semiconductor design, according to Axios and other U.S. outlets. The company’s software uses autonomous AI agents—systems that can plan and execute tasks with limited human input—to assist with complex chip‑design workflows.

The round attracted a notable mix of financial and strategic backers, including venture firms B Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, as well as memory giant Micron, Taiwan‑based chip designer MediaTek, and telecom equipment maker Ericsson. With electronic design automation (EDA) workflows growing ever more complex and experienced engineers in short supply, there is strong interest in using AI to automatically generate, optimize, and verify design options, potentially cutting development time and costs.

The shift is not without risks. Designs synthesized by AI could hide subtle flaws, and the way intellectual property is generated and shared in AI‑assisted flows is still an open question. The fact that major semiconductor players are investing at this early stage, however, suggests that AI‑driven design support is moving quickly from experiment to industry‑wide strategy.
